The path to the mountain

Just behind the cortijo a dirt track begins that mules once used to carry almonds down the mountain. It winds past rosemary, wild thyme and dry grass up to the ridge.
Leave early. At eight the first light falls across the slope and turns everything gold. After an hour of climbing you stand at the top, with the mountains on one side and the sea on the other.
What to bring
Water, a hat and sturdy shoes. There is no shade on the way. You will be back in time for a second coffee on the terrace.
